For the 2009-10 school year, Kindergarten in Harvard is a half-day program. Children are taught to grow socially and intellectually, with hands-on activities that encourage problem solving, language, and social skills, as well as core reading, writing, and math readiness skills.

The half-day Pre-K program serves three-and four- year-old children who have been identified through a screening process as being at risk of academic failure. The Pre-K staff works closely with the children to develop language, social and fine & gross motor skills, as well as other areas to ensure success in kindergarten and beyond.

The Early Childhood Education program serves three- to six-year-olds who have special education needs. Early intervention is key to future success. These children are served in classrooms that provide small group and one-on-one instruction that meet each child’s individual needs as determined by his Individual Education Plan (IEP).

The Parental Training staff works closely with parents of young children up to age three to encourage the children’s optimal development and future success and to help parents develop parenting skills.

Overall, the staff of Washington School is determined to give all young children the skills and confidence they need to be successful lifelong learners.
