Harvard CUSD 50 is pleased to announce that the new Harvard High School principal will be Carl Hobbs.
Hobbs has been serving as an assistant principal for the last six years, and for the past four years has taken on the role of athletic director in addition to serving as the assistant principal in the Belvidere School District. Prior to that he taught business in the school district and has served as a faculty member at Joliet Junior College and Director of Student Activities and Residence life at North Park University.
He will come on board full-time when Rob retires. Welcome Carl, and Rob, thank you very much for the last 10 years!
The Harvard High School Choir opened the Veteran's Celebration with a moving rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. The event honored Harvard area veterans including Harvard alumni and World War II veteran Ray Carlson. Many of the students participated as well and the choir and band both performed several numbers.
It was a great event and those that attended were moved by the appreciation of the school and students.
Harvard High School alumni and mixed-martial artist Emmanuel Sanchez visited with a group of students Friday morning at the high school to talk about some of his positive and negative life experiences. He related with them, by talking about some of the challenges they face in school and how hard work can positively affect their future. Thanks to Sanchez for coming to visit and Mr. Petska for putting this together.
Thanks to Mr. Benito, Mr. Valdes, and Mayor Kelly for giving students in several of the high school Spanish classes the chance to interact with the mayor. The students interviewed him in Spanish, asking him a wide variety of questions about the Harvard community. It was a great way to get these kids more connected to their community.

Veterans are encouraged to attend and call the high school to receive a personalized invitation. Please contact Kathie Bough at the high school at 815-943-6461 extension 2214.
We look forward to seeing you and your families at this great event.
