Harvard Community Unit School District 50’s Board of Education approved the hiring of two critical administrative positions at Wednesday’s board meeting. Dr. Victoria Larson will be the assistant superintendent in a newly created role for the district. Mr. Juan Suarez will serve as Harvard Junior High’s new principal.
Citing the district’s Strategic Goal Plan, Superintendent Dr. Corey Tafoya said “A primary goal of the School Board’s plan is to improve student success and organizational effectiveness. In Dr. Larson, we’ve found an experienced, and passionate leader who has a track record of developing both areas. Dr. Larson is a dynamic leader, and her influence in District 50 will be profound, just as it has been in prior positions. I’m thrilled to have an educational leader of her caliber join us in Harvard.” Dr. Larson has worked in District 200 since 2008 as principal at Verda Dierzen Early Learning Center and then Dean Street Elementary in Woodstock, Illinois.
Mr. Suarez is currently the assistant principal at Parkview Elementary in Carpentersville, Illinois. He has worked his entire career in D300 moving from ESL teacher, Coordinator of Title I, Coordinator of Title I and ESL Services, and now an assistant principal. Dr. Tafoya explained that “As a former ESL student and a graduate of Dundee-Crown High School, Mr. Suarez has a terrific background story and will inspire and lead the staff and students at Harvard Junior High School. We were all impressed by his sincerity and desire to help students achieve.”
Both positions begin for the 2018-2019 school year.
