At Wednesday’s public meeting, the Harvard CUSD 50 Board of Education recognized students and staff for recent achievements.
The board recognized freshmen Mitchell Anderson and Caden Scott for placing at the IDEA Regional Drafting Competition. Anderson took first place, and Scott earned second place for the Architectural Board Division.
The board recognized Stephen Allen, Ruby Galarza, Franky Lopez, Marcos Morales, Fernando Pichardo, Drake Poliquin, Reid Stricker, and Trey Swenson for their Harvard Accounting II Team overall win at the McHenry County College Bowl. Stricker was the first place individual winner, Galarza was the second place individual winner, and Lopez was the third place individual winner at the bowl. Accounting teacher Kathleen Grimm was also recognized.
Harvard High School’s Korey Coffer and Hayley Gotzsche received recognition for the outstanding performances by band and choir at the IHSA Band and Choir Contest. The high school earned a Division 1 Rating for Band, Advanced Choir, Jazz Choir, and a Division 2 Rating for Concert Choir.
Freshman Steven Austin received recognition for winning first place for the region and 18th place for the state at the ICTM State Math Competition.
Sophomore Kimmyra Neal was WHIW’s Athlete of the Month for softball. Harvard High School senior Reid Stricker received recognition for being named WHIW’s Athlete of the Month for boys track and field. Each student received a $20 gift certificate from First Place Promotions and Awards.
The board convenes every month in open, public meetings to discuss district business and hear citizens’ concerns. An agenda is posted publicly in advance of board meetings.
