Crosby Principal Introduction Letter

July 15, 2019

For the 2019-2020 school year, Harvard CUSD 50 welcomes new Crosby Elementary School Principal Kathleen Ferguson.

Dear Crosby Families,

I hope you all are enjoying your summer! My name is Kathleen Ferguson, and I am so excited to serve as the new Principal at Crosby Elementary School for the 2019-2020 school year. My family and I feel very thankful for this opportunity, and I am looking forward to meeting you and working with you, and your children, this school year. The first day of school is always a day of excitement for students, staff, and families. I want to assure you that the Crosby Staff will be eager to see your amazing children come through the doors. I can’t wait to see their smiles and say hello!

As I have been moving things into my office and settling in, I have taken some time to reflect on all the new and exciting adventures I have to look forward to with all of you. Everyone I have met here in Harvard has been so enthusiastic and willing to help with anything. There is a warm and welcoming feeling from this community and school district. That genuine and caring feeling is one of the first things I noticed about this community, and it is one of the many qualities which drew me to this position at Crosby.

My family consists of my husband, Scot, and our daughters Makenzie and Audra. Makenzie will be a junior in college, and Audra will be a junior in high school this fall. We also have a dog that is a beagle-mix. Her name is Miley, and we rescued her 11 years ago.

I have served in various capacities for 18 years in education. My first teaching position was right out of college, and I taught for seven years as a fifth-grade teacher. Then I had the opportunity to teach three years as a seventh and eighth-grade teacher. After moving from Ohio to Wisconsin, I decided to return to grad school and earn my Master’s in Reading Instruction, which led me to my most recent position as a Reading Specialist in the Burlington Area School District in Burlington, WI. This past June, I completed my eighth year as a K-4 Reading Specialist.

In August 2018, I completed my Master’s in Educational Administration as my dream has always been to become an elementary school principal. Well, I wanted to get a few years in the classroom under my belt, but that thought and burning desire has never left my heart and soul….it is in me …and positive leadership is something I am very passionate about! Now a new chapter begins. The time is right, and the place is perfect!

I am looking forward to an exciting 2019-2020 school year and the opportunity to build relationships with our amazing staff, students, and families. I can’t wait to get to know the wonderful students at Crosby Elementary School.

Enjoy the rest of your summer, and I will see you all in August!

Mrs. Kathleen Ferguson
Crosby Elementary School Principal
