🏡📚 Exploring the 13 Colonies Through Creativity!
Students in Mr. Rada’s Social Studies class kicked off their unit on the 13 Colonies by designing their own colonial houses! As part of National Bullying Prevention Month, Harvard Junior High proudly participated in Unity Day by wearing orange to show that bullying is not acceptable and that every student deserves to feel safe, valued, and included. 🧡
Our Art Club took the message a step further by painting rocks orange and adding messages of kindness, encouragement, support, and anti-bullying! 🎨🪨 These special rocks are hidden throughout the school, and students who find them can turn them in for prizes! A big thank-you to our anonymous donor who generously funded the prizes and helped make this activity possible. ❤️

🏃♂️ What a season for Harvard Hornets Cross Country! 🐝💛🖤
The boys cross country team had an incredible season, finishing 1st at every meet except the conference meet, where they earned 2nd place! The Hornets continued their strong performance at sectionals, placing 5th out of 13 teams and qualifying two runners for the State Meet! 🏅
A huge congratulations to Nate and Gio on advancing to State! An extra shoutout to Nate, who was the Conference Champion and finished an impressive 4th place at sectionals! 👏
Today we had our State send off as the High School Drumline marched them through the halls as HJH cheered them and wished them well at the State XC meet tomorrow!
We are so proud of these athletes and their hard work, determination, and dedication all season long!
Good luck at State, Hornets! Bring that Hornet Pride! 🐝💛🖤

Halloween Costume Expectations
Friday, October 30th, is set aside for HJHS students and staff to celebrate Halloween during the school day. Students are not required to wear a costume. If a student does not choose to wear a costume, they MUST follow all CUSD50 dress code expectations.
All costumes at school must follow the CUSD50 School Dress Code and Student Appearance guidelines 2.50 found on page 21, and General Building Conduct and Student Behavior 2.60 on pages 20 and 29 of the 2026 - 27 Parent and Student Handbook.
Some things to remember:
All weapons, toy weapons, or props replicating weapons are to be kept at home.
The costume must be worn so that the student's face is recognizable and uncovered.
The student must be able to participate in all activities (sitting at their desk, going to the bathroom, walking in the hallways, sitting in the cafeteria, etc.)
Costumes may not be demeaning to any ethnic group, race, religion, nationality, disability, gender, or individual (staff or student) at the school.

🏐 A Great Day of Volleyball! 🏐
Last week, our Jr. High volleyball teams traveled to MCC for a special clinic hosted by the MCC volleyball players! It was a great opportunity for our Hornets to gain new insights, pick up some helpful tips, and to put in some work alongside college athletes.
We also had a great time cheering on the Scots as they came away with the win! What a fun experience and a great opportunity for our players to learn, grow, and be inspired. 🐝🖤💛

During the week of 10/12/2026, Harvard Junior High School students and staff will participate in a Fire Evacuation Drill to ensure our students and staff are prepared to respond to an emergency. The goal of the drill is to help students feel safe and as prepared as possible should an emergency arise. The Harvard Fire Department will be on site to assist in this drill. Our safety department continues to work with police and fire across McHenry County to enhance the safety procedures, technology, response, communication, and training for our schools. Safety is a partnership between all involved – parents included.

Kin-Ball is a fast-paced team sport played with a giant ball where communication, teamwork, and quick reactions are key. Students work together to keep the ball from hitting the floor while communicating and moving as a team.
It’s definitely a workout, but more importantly, it’s a great way to build teamwork, communication, cooperation, and a whole lot of fun! 🙌
