This year, Harvard High School introduced a new organization, Business Professionals of America. Business Professionals of America is the premier CTSO (Career and Technical Student Organization) for students pursuing careers in business management, information technology, finance, office administration, health administration, and other related career fields. In the first year, over 50 Harvard High School students participated.

This weekend, 26 of those students are attending the Business Professionals of America (BPA) Illinois State Leadership Conference.  The students will be competing to attend the National Leadership Conference in May, hosted in Dallas, Texas.

Harvard High School Principal, Mr. Hobbs, stated, “I'm excited for our students to experience real-world business challenges and apply what they have learned at the state competition.  I'm proud of our students for taking on the challenge to compete at the state level.”

HHS Students competing this week will be in the following paper/pencil and computer events:  Fundamental Accounting, Payroll Accounting, Advanced Accounting, Banking & Finance, Personal Financial Management, Fundamental Word Processing, Basic Office Systems and Procedures, Legal Office Procedures, Health Admin Procedures, Business Law & Ethics, Computer Security.

Students will also be competing in the following presentation events:  Graphic Design Promotion, Digital Media Production, Small Business Management Team, Interview Skills, Extemporaneous Speech, Human Resources Management, Prepared Speech, Presentation Management - Individual.

Many students are also competing in the Knowledge Matters Accounting Simulation Challenge to win $1,000!

Harvard High School Business Teacher is also very proud of his student's accomplishments. “I am incredibly proud of the business students at HHS for taking on this opportunity!  BPA and the corresponding business competitions were quite ambiguous for our students when we started three short months ago.  Our members accepted the challenge and put in the necessary work to grow and improve.  It paid off in a big way as they are ready to compete against some of the best and brightest students in Illinois at our BPA State Leadership Conference!”
