CUSD 50 Staff Spotlight: Jessica Wolf, Special Education Teacher at Harvard Junior High

"I grew up in Woodstock and I went to Woodstock School District 200. I have a list of teachers starting from 1st grade (Mrs. Halma) to my senior year (Mr. Strong and Mr. Fredickson) that have forever changed my life and supported me throughout many seasons of my adolescent years. I am the person I am today, because of their guidance and patience with me."

“My mom was one of my biggest inspirations to become an educator. She was an art teacher, and some of my greatest childhood memories are being by her side during school events. I grew up going into her school every summer and helping teachers prepare for the upcoming school year, which gave me an early appreciation for the education community. Working summer school for SEDOM also inspired me to begin my journey in Special Education. My own personal experience with school played a significant role as well. Growing up and attending school was difficult for me at times, and my teachers became my safe place and my heroes. Because of those experiences, I can only hope to be that same source of support, safety, and encouragement for our students today. This is my seventh year leading the “Wolf Pack” at Harvard Junior High!”

“What I love most about being an educator is the opportunity to see the light go on in a child’s eyes and to show the world what our students are capable of achieving! I love being part of something greater than myself, never giving up, and believing in the impossible, even when things may seem challenging. Education is a journey of continuous learning, and I find that I learn something new myself every day. Above all, I value the sense of community within my workplace and the opportunity to work alongside others who share a passion for supporting and inspiring our students.”

“What I love most about the Harvard School District is our kids and the incredible community that surrounds them! I absolutely love the people I work with, not only my HJH family but also my coworkers throughout the entire district. The rural location is another part of what makes Harvard so special to me. Farm life and the country are in my blood, so I truly appreciate being part of a district and community that feels like home.”

“Practice gratitude and lead with a grateful heart. In my classroom, I have a gratitude board that everyone, including myself, contributes to each week. It is also important to make time to smile and laugh, even when things are difficult. Finding ways to show kindness to others in the workplace can make a meaningful difference! Here at HJH, we have the “Cart with Heart,” where members of the “Wolf Pack” deliver treats and goods to staff throughout the building a couple of times each year. This special initiative came to life with the help of one of my favorite people from my HJH family. Most importantly, think of others—getting out of yourself and focusing on those around you can be a hidden recipe for joy!”
