🧠✏️ AVID in Action in HIVE! ✏️🧠
Students in Mrs. Nicky's HIVE took on a fun and challenging AVID activity that put their communication skills to the test! Working with a partner, one student described an unknown picture using clear, detailed instructions while the other listened closely and drew the image based solely on those directions.
This hands-on activity emphasized effective communication, active listening, teamwork, and problem-solving—all essential AVID skills for success in and beyond the classroom. Great collaboration, HIVE students! 👏🎨

Our school community truly showed up in a BIG way! Student council dropped off our Coins for CASA containers and they were absolutely shocked by the total.
As a school, we raised an incredible $1,178 to support CASA of McHenry County and the important work they do for children in our community🖤💛
Thank you to our students, families, and staff for every coin, dollar, and act of kindness. This is something to be incredibly proud of! 👏✨

Our 8th Grade Language Arts classes just wrapped up The Outsiders unit! 🙌
Students explored the major differences between the two rival groups in the story — the Greasers, often seen as lower-class “hoods” and outsiders of their community, and the Socs, the upper-class teens known for their wealth and privilege.
To celebrate finishing the novel, students had the chance to dress up as their favorite group while watching the movie! 🍿✨
Such a fun way to bring literature to life! 💛📚🔥

Our AVID sixth graders had an incredible field trip exploring their futures and caring for our community! Students kicked off the day with an inspiring tour of McHenry County College, getting a firsthand look at college life and the opportunities that await them.
They then headed to Hennen Conservation Area, where they rolled up their sleeves to help remove invasive species and protect our local ecosystem.
We’re so proud of their curiosity, teamwork, and commitment to making a difference—both for themselves and for the world around them!

Mrs. Dixon's 6th grade students kicked off the Levels of Organization unit with a fun and collaborative intro activity! 🎉🧠
Working in teams, they used vocabulary terms to stack cups from the smallest level to the largest, showing how living things are organized from tiny building blocks to entire organisms.

To review, they played a fun **Instrument Family Dice Game** inspired by an AVID “Get to Know You” activity that was remixed to include questions about instruments, their parts, and vocabulary from the unit. 🎲🎶
