What does it look like at Jefferson Elementary?

Positive-Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) is a universal school action plan that is used to establish a positive culture in our school community for all students and staff. Research shows that positive interactions with students directly impacts positive school culture.

PBIS is a multi-tiered behavioral support system that consists of a data-driven decision-making framework. Data is used to drive practices by making informed decisions for school improvement, establishing a positive learning environment as well as continuously improving the systems of support in place to positively impact student behavior. This intervention is implemented through the change of staff procedures and practices in order to change student behavior. Listed below is a chart that outlines each tier as well as examples of how they are implemented in our school.

At Jefferson Elementary School, Bee Bucks are used to acknowledge and reinforce students for their positive behavior on a regular basis. We believe that positive interaction is the intervention. It is an opportunity to acknowledge a student’s behavior, provide feedback and re-teach expectations as needed. We use this opportunity to set each student up for success.

• Tier 1 & Tier 2  supports

• Additional intensive & individualized support

• Examples:

  • Brief/ Complex Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA)

  • Brief/ Complex Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP)

  • Wraparound
