CUSD 50 Staff Spotlight: Kelley Crone, Pre-K Teacher at Washington

"I grew up here in Harvard and graduated from Harvard High School in 1999 before attending Illinois State University. Both my family and my husband’s are from Harvard and we decided it would be a great place to stay and raise our own family."

"I was a very shy child and remember being afraid to go to school for the first time. My three preschool teachers - Ms. Perenchio, Ms. Hutchinson and Ms. Horton welcomed me and made me feel safe. They, as well as the many teachers I had following, instilled a love of learning. I always knew I wanted to follow in their footsteps and become a teacher. It truly has been a full circle experience and I’ve now been teaching Pre-K for 22 years this being my fourth year in District 50."

"I love coming to school everyday and seeing our sweet students. I think it’s impossible to visit Washington school and not leave with a smile on your face! At this young age, students are extremely inquisitive and absorb so much. I get the opportunity to provide fun, meaningful and hands-on learning experiences with the hopes they build a love of school early on. It makes my day running into former students and hearing how much they loved and still remember their Pre-K experience!"

"I love that the Harvard School District still has that small town feel and sense of community I experienced while there, yet now has so many more opportunities available from offering Dual Language and AP classes to college and career readiness courses to fit students’ needs. Also, the teachers and staff in District 50 have the biggest hearts and genuinely care about their students and families."

"Something I try to live by is always put yourself in someone else’s shoes. In doing so, we are able to see things from other perspectives which builds stronger relationships and the ability to collaborate. Having an open mind and empathy goes a long way. You never know what someone else might be going through, so offer a smile, a hand, some kindness and grace."
