Emergency Day

Harvard Families,

The cool morning temperatures remind us that we must consider how winter weather will impact the school day. Throughout the pandemic, we have learned that schools can effectively operate during adverse conditions. With that knowledge, Harvard CUSD 50 will use remote instruction on all weather-related emergency days for the 2021-2022 school year. Specific expectations will be communicated to each child by their classroom teacher(s), so all students will know how to connect with their classes. On weather-related remote learning days, instruction will last the duration of the regular school day.

Here are a few additional reminders as we head into the winter months:
  • Chromebooks – Students are expected to bring home their Chromebooks each night. In the case of weather-related remote learning, students will log on at their normal start time for distance learning. If there’s a potential for bad weather, we’ll be sure to remind students to take their Chromebooks with them.
  • Wi-fi Access – If your student needs a hotspot for reliable wi-fi access, please fill out the Hotspot Request Form and contact Jessica at Central Office (815-943-4022) as soon as possible. Free hotspots are available so that all students will have a reliable internet connection for remote learning on inclement weather days.
  • Delayed Start Days – As with prior years, Harvard CUSD 50 may also use delayed start days, where in-person classes start two hours later than usual. Two-hour delayed start days are used when the weather would make travel to school difficult, but with two more hours, the conditions would improve for travel to school. (On two-hour delayed start days, Washington morning sessions are canceled.)
  • Parent Contact Information – Parents, please be sure your contact information is up-to-date in PowerSchool. The contact information you provided in PowerSchool is where we will contact you in the case of a weather-related emergency. To update your contact information, please call Central Office (815-943-4022) or email vperez@cusd50.org.

Sincerely,
Dr. Corey Tafoya
