Harvard CUSD 50 Identity Guide

Here you will find guidelines for all district communication. Consistency is essential to our identity and supports Strategic Goal 3. Any letter, website, poster, banner, t-shirt or other representation of the district should reinforce a positive visual image of Harvard Community Unit School District 50. Our visual identity reflects who we are and where we are going.

01. Primary Logo

The Harvard Community School District 50 logo is the keystone of our visual identity and one of the three variations is used on all communications materials. Using it consistently will enhance the community’s recognition of who we are and build trust.

Usage

The logo must be reproduced from high-resolution digital artwork.

As the primary graphic identity for the institution, one of the three variations on the formal logo must appear on all communications, including brochures, stationery, business cards and websites.

The logo may not be reconstructed or altered in any way. This rule includes but is not restricted to type, the ruled line, outlines or embellishments. Do not create secondary logos, as this is confusing to audiences and dilutes our goal of creating a common, mutually reinforcing image.

Clear Space Requirements

To ensure the integrity and visual impact of the logo, the appropriate “clear space” must be maintained on all sides. There should always be 1/2 the distance “x” between any part of the logo and any other page element or the edge of the page, where “x” is equal to the height of the well.

A Note About the Font Comic Sans

Comic Sans has widespread use in K-12 education. As professional educators, how we present ourselves and communicate is key to connecting with families. The fonts we use should reinforce our messaging. Please avoid using Comic Sans and other handwritten fonts for professional communication. Comic Sans is a fun, childish, and informal font. Using Comic Sans can be okay when communicating with young students, but it should not be used for communication with parents or staff.

06. Letterhead Guidelines

All letterhead and Harvard CUSD 50 stationary must adhere to the identity guidelines established within this style guide. Please do not attempt to format your own letterhead. Letterhead templates are available in the district’s Google Doc template gallery.

Creation of an electronic version of your letterhead (a Google Sheet Template), additional stationery, business cards, and other collateral materials can be provided by the CUSD 50 Communications Department.

Changing the margins of a letterhead template will affect the layout of the letterhead and degrade the identity. Learn how to correctly alter document margins without affecting the letterhead layout by watching this video.
