Harvard CUSD 50 has named Rob Mecklenburg interim athletic director, effective Jan. 17, following the retirement of Barry Gurvey.
Mecklenburg will continue serving as the district's wellness coordinator while leading CUSD 50 athletics during this transition period.
"Sports play an important role in making a person whole and setting students up for success in life," Mecklenburg said. "I love supporting students in competition and providing outstanding experiences through athletics."
Mecklenburg brings 34 years of education experience to the role, during which time he has coached numerous sports. He has served as assistant athletic director in a neighboring district for the past decade, giving him deep knowledge of interscholastic athletics in the region.
"I'm looking forward to keeping the ship moving in the right direction until a full-time athletic director is selected," Mecklenburg said. "I look forward to supporting our coaches and student-athletes and celebrating their successes."
Gurvey is retiring Jan. 16 after serving as CUSD 50’s athletic director for more than three years. The district thanks him for his service.
A search for the full-time athletic director is underway.
