CUSD 50 Staff Spotlight: Maribel Corleto Kattan, ESL Teacher at Harvard Junior High

"I was born and raised in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, where I also completed my High school studies. Then I moved to Tegucigalpa for my university."

"Teaching is in my blood! My mother was a teacher and taught me when I was in preschool. I remember playing the role of a teacher even as a small child—I guess I always knew it was my calling. I am now in my second year here with the Harvard School District."

"I love using my own life experiences to connect with my students. There is nothing more rewarding than witnessing that 'lightbulb moment'—seeing the change in expression in a student’s face when a concept finally clicks, and they truly understand."

"I truly value the collaborative culture here. I love how teachers constantly support one another to ensure our students succeed. It’s also wonderful to work in a district that provides such a wide range of resources to help us be as effective as possible in the classroom."

"My advice is to always look for the lesson. By choosing to find the positive in every experience—even the challenging ones—you create an environment where growth and optimism can thrive."
