CUSD 50 Staff Spotlight: Ivelisse Lynch, Math Teacher at Harvard High School

"I was born and raised in Puerto Rico. I studied at El Colegio de la Inmaculada from Kindergarten until Senior Year in high school. Then, I did my bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayagüez. Later on, I did my Masters in Education at North Park University in Chicago, IL, specializing in High School Mathematics Instruction. And finally, I did my Masters plus 18 in Bilingual Education and English as a Second Language studies at National Louis University."

"The person that inspired me the most to become a teacher was my father, Elvyn Robles. He has always taught me the importance of education and how it affects every aspect of our lives. My Dad and my Mom had very humble beginnings. Their effort through education made them into who they are today, and it inspired the success of their children and grandchildren. I have been teaching at Harvard High School for over 6 years."

"I love seeing my students grow up intellectually and emotionally. There is an immense transformation in my students’ lives going on in High School. Students really go from teenagehood into adulthood."

"What I love most about our school district is the hopeful attitude everybody has. If someone is down, we lift each other up. Students support teachers and teachers support students. It is a community of growth and opportunity for our students."

"Take a good look around you. Your community needs you as you are doing your job. We are Hornets, it is a beehive that is alive and needs your contribution. Students need their teachers and personnel in order to grow and be safe. Teachers and school personnel see our students’ success and feel excited and grateful for the opportunity to serve others. There is no better reward than to be part of a community like ours here in Harvard."
